And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him. Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me. So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision. Exodus 24-26
What in the world is going on here? Just a few scriptures ago Moses was called to go back to Egypt to lead the Israelites into the land of Canaan, but here we see that God was about to kill him. Does that make sense to you?
It only makes sense when your realize that Moses did not obey the command from the Lord that all males were to be circumcised on the eighth day. In other words, Moses was about to go on an incredible mission for the Lord but he neglected to obey Him in this small matter.
That’s how important obedience is to the Lord. God wants our service, our time, or efforts, and our sacrifices, but not if we neglect to obey His commandments.
You may be called to the mission field, you may be called to be a pastor, you may even be called to run the largest ministry in the world, but if you neglect even the smallest matter of his Word, then your sacrifice to the Lord is meaningless.
Therefore, if you are called by the Lord to GO, before you go, stop and search your heart to be sure you are walking in obedience to His Word. Because if you’re not, then you might find the Lord along the way like Moses did.
He wants your sacrifices. But FIRST, he must have your obedience.
