Rebellion and Stubbornness

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king. ~ 1 Samuel 15:23

Rebellion and Stubbornness. These are two parts of my character that I fight against the most. These are the ones that keep me up at night as I reflect upon my day. I find that I must put them to death more so than any other temptation that wants to rule over me.

As a true blooded American, I’m told that these are admirable qualities to possess. We were born out of rebellion against the king of England. Most, if not all, of the Protestant churches were born out of rebellion against the Roman Catholic Church. It just seems to permeate every fiber of our being.

To rebel against tyranny, injustice, and wickedness is, however, no vice. But to rebel against the Lord, is undoubtedly no virtue.

We must put to death those attitudes that cause us to pull back from the Lord, that urge us to not follow through on what the Lord has called us to do. Because, if we don’t, then we are no different than those that practice idolatry and witchcraft. This sin may seem but light to you, to the Lord however, it is immense.
