Hello Beloved,
I’m Jeff Sievertson, pastor of Family Bible Church of Columbus, in Columbus, Indiana. In 2019 my wife, Amanda, and I, felt led by the Lord to start a home church in Columbus, Indiana. After serving seven years (2012 – 2019) as an elder at Village Bible Church, (and being one of the founding members of VBC), I approached my pastors and elders to pray with us about this new move that we felt led by the Lord to embark upon. They agreed with us in prayer, to which I then approached the whole church to pray with Amanda and I as well. They too were in agreement. I was grateful for their commissioning, their endorsement, and their ordination of me.
In the years since we started, we’ve had the opportunity to preach to many different people, whether in our home, or somebody else’s home, out on the streets, in other churches, or in homeless shelters. I’ve had the opportunity to plant seeds in people’s lives that led to a deeper walk with Jesus, to walk alongside brothers and sisters in Christ who were struggling with life changing events, to baptize new believers and to even lead others in prayer to ask for the Lord to save them. Needless to say, it’s been eye-opening and rewarding and I truly feel blessed in this calling.
Amanda and I, as well, have had our own struggles with life events that could have easily destroyed us, but the Lord was always there, providing us comfort, peace, and understanding as well as bringing His Word to our remembrance through Scripture, through words of encouragement from other like-minded Christians, or through times of us pouring our hearts out to the Lord in prayer.
I’ve said all that because I believe the Lord now wants me to reach out to other churches that are in need of either a guest pastor to give their pastor a sabbatical or an interim pastor until they can find a full time pastor to fill the pulpit.
Just to clarify, we are not closing up Family Bible Church. My thoughts are that if I have the opportunity to fill the pulpit for a short time at another church, then those members who come to FBC can join me at the other church, or we can change our time to meet in our home to accommodate our members. One thing about having a house church is the flexibility it gives us to meet at various times.
